1958 Ford Custom 300
Owned by Larry D'Argis
On any given Sunday, you can find this Torch red '58 Ford
cruising the streets of Winnipeg, or in attendance at the many
local car shows. Owned by Fabulous 50's Ford Club Director Larry
D'Argis, it incorporates the clean lines of the stock bodied
late '50s Ford with the full house power and torque of a big
block V8. Inside you'll find a custom interior that's just a
little bit different. Using the bucket seats, floor console,
sectioned rear seat and metal parcel shelf from a '63 Galaxie
500XL it almost looks like a factory installation.
Under the hood, we find a '70 Lincoln 460 that's been balanced
and blueprinted. Fitted with 0.060 in. over TRW pistons yielding
a total of 473 cubic inches, the 10.0:1 compression motor is
definitely a thumper. The closed chamber, cylinder heads have
been ported and had screw in studs, guide plates, Crane valve
springs and roller rockers installed. A Ford Racing camshaft and
timing chain direct the fuel and air fed through the Edelbrock
aluminum intake manifold and Holley 750 cfm carburetor. It all
exhales through a set of Crites headers, to a Minute Muffler
custom 3 in. dia. aluminized exhaust system, with balance tube,
40-series Flowmaster mufflers and Megs tips.
A heavy-duty Lincoln C-6 automatic, with shift kit, directs the
power through a custom driveshaft to a Ford 9 in. posi with
3.89:1 gears and Traction Master traction bars. The Ford coach
has had its nose dropped 2 in. and is tied to the road with a
set of Ford, (Magnum 500), road wheels, turning B. F. Goodrich
T/A radials. Creature comforts include tinted glass, power
brakes, power antenna and a factory T&C signal-seeking radio.
Comfortable, dependable and with enough power to pull a freight
train, it's a street machine that's easy to live with and flat
out fun to drive!
